Whether to apply is a very personal decision. Your best guide is your own intuition as to whether you have a health condition that prevents you from working. However, the following questions may help you think it through.

1. Do I have a medical condition that makes me unable to do any of the jobs I did during the last 15 years?

2. Is it possible that I could do other types of work, (on a full time basis) even if they didn't pay as much as my past work?

3. Has my medical condition lasted, or is it expected to last, at least 12 months?

If your condition has lasted or is expected to last for at least 12 months and it prevents you from doing your past work or any other work, you may fit Social Security's definition of disability. You should consider applying for disability benefits.
